“I don’t want to be real in other people’s minds,...I want to be an apparition.”- Karl Lagerfeld
"Lagerfeld Confidential" is a film documentary of the emperor of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld. What's unique with this documentary is it does not focus Karl Lagerfeld the designer, but Karl Lagerfeld the Photographer. Yes, Karl is an accomplished photographer. On 24 November 2006 he opened “One man shown” at C/O Berlin.
The 90-minute film was directed by Rodolphe Marconi. The film shows Mr. Lagerfeld during his photoshoots for his collections, a little of his private life which was not (really) revealed on the film. Karl Lagerfeld shared stories about his childhood, growing up in Northern Germany, influences of his mother, his sexuality, his life in Paris when he moved as a teenager and his sexually active early adulthood years. Lagerfeld allowed Marconi to follow him for a span of two years to produce this documentary.
Lagerfeld's "Word of Wisdom" from the film:
“I hate people who can’t be alone”
“The best things I’ve ever done have come from dreams”
“Fashion is ephemeral, dangerous and unfair”
“There is a German saying: ‘You can’t borrow on your past.’”
“I love change; I’m attached to nothing”
