status magazine lady gaga fashion
STATUS Magazine launched its 8th issue: STATUS...Hearts Fashion. A must have fashion issue. Everybody went gaga for the Lady Gaga cover at Embassy Cuisine. The place was packed, plus the booze and the music by DJ Skratchmark filled the venue with party mood.

The latest issue of STATUS features the giants and emerging movers and shakers in street and urban fashion. The likes of Garance Dore and Yuki Lee, the person responsible for the hype of lookbook.nu.

Flipping through the pages of STATUS Magazine is like a breath of fresh air from the cliches of fashion and lifestyle magazines here in the Philippines. It opens a window of what's happening in the US and other neighboring countries. Not for us to imitate, rather it gives inspiration and a whole new perspective of the hip and youth culture.

Congratulations to STATUS Team for this one of a kind issue.

Get Soft, Beautiful Skin That You Can Flaunt

johnsons body care lotion beauty

It was a celebration of soft skin, beauty and style as Johnson & Johnson mounted a fashion show to launch Johnson’s Body Care, its new body care brand made especially for women. The new Johnson’s Body Care range of body lotions and washes boasts of a line of products that will give women what they want – soft and beautiful skin.

The fashion show, presented in partnership with Preview magazine, highlighted the beauty of soft, moisturized skin, which can be achieved with the new Johnson’s Body Care products. Featured during the fashion show were exquisite pieces from six of Manila’s young female designers, namely Debbie Co, Rosanna Ocampo, Mel Orlina, Choc and Yvette Religioso, and Czarina Villa. The collections showcased dresses in soft, sheer fabrics in shades of white, blush and nude, with nothing but a woman’s soft skin as inspiration.

“The gentleness, softness, freshness and smoothness of skin inspired me to design these dresses,” recounted Co. “Delicate, soft, and sheer fabrics were used to showcase the skin. I made the dresses light and flowy and used nude colors making them beautifully soft and fluid.”

The importance of possessing soft beautiful skin to complement one’s fashion choices, be it casual, chic and trendy, or formal was also underscored during the show. For the Religioso sisters, showcasing a certain part of a woman’s body is made easier if the woman has soft and smooth skin, if she has nothing to hide.

“The models’ smooth, glowing skin definitely stands out and can be displayed proudly as seen here in our creations,” said Religioso. “We designed these dresses with bare backs and shoulders to give more emphasis to the skin in those areas.”

Accentuating a woman’s waist by using the right fabrics and providing a peek on both sides, Villa’s creation draws attention to this most feminine body part. “With this creation, I played with the softness of the fabric to fully highlight the sexiest part of every woman’s body: the waist,” described Villa. “The color of the fabric also plays up the luminescence of the skin, so the model’s soft, supple skin truly shines.”

With hemlines above the knees, Orlina’s dresses offer a full, unobstructed view of the models’ legs. “I came up with this creation to showcase the legs. As a designer, knowing what I want to emphasize dictates the cut, details and most importantly, the color of the dress I’m working on,” she explained. “These creations make that much-desired body part stand out.”

Aside from the fashion show, free consultations with beauty and fashion experts like Donna Cuna-Pita were also offered throughout the evening. An innovative Soft Skin Lotion Bar, similar to an ice cream kiosk, allowed guests to experience first hand the benefits of Johnson’s Body Care lotions.

The Johnson’s Body Care body lotions and washes come in three variants, namely: Johnson’s Body Care 24 Hour Lasting Moisture, Melt Away Stress, and Naturally White. The Johnson’s Body Care 24 Hour Lasting Moisture gives women long-lasting silky smooth skin. Skin will bask in moisture and prevent dullness, flakiness and tightness caused by dryness, from sunrise to sundown. The Johnson’s Body Care Melt Away Stress with calming properties helps melt away stress and refreshes the skin. While the Johnson’s Body Care Naturally White provides daily care that helps keep the skin’s brightness for a naturally soft and fair glow.

“Johnson’s Body Care allows women to have soft beautiful skin and this makes them look and feel good about themselves,” explained Via Abaño, Johnson’s Body Care Senior Brand Manager. “With soft, beautiful skin, women are empowered to express themselves through their fashion choices. It makes her comfortable in her own skin, and frees her from boundaries of what she can or cannot wear.”

Johnson’s Body Care lotions and washes are available at all leading beauty and personal care stores, department stores and supermarkets nationwide.

SAMSUNG METROWEAR YDG / FDCP 2009

THE SAMSUNG METROWEAR YDG / FDCP SHOW PRESENTS HOLIDAY TRENDS 2009

Metro took the lead in forecasting the trends for the coming holiday 2009 season with the second leg of its highly successful Samsung Metrowear 2009 series. Now on its seventh year, Metrowear continues to provide a stage to showcase, promote and celebrate the creativity, artistry and ingenuity of Filipino fashion designers. This is part of Metro Magazine’s vision to draw focus to the fine craftsmanship and innate creativity of local designers as they emerge as global artists.

As part of their celebration of 20 stylish years, Metro Magazine, with editor-in-chief Katrina Holigores at the helm, continues to set the bar on fashion and beauty for the stylish independent woman. This means working with the best in local fashion design talent and creative minds, as is evident in the fashion show series. The Metrowear series takes on a grander scale, as it marks this milestone for the magazine. The year opened with the historic Samsung Metrowear 100, which showcased the work of 100 designers on one stage. The grand presentation was capped off with a finale presentation by the dean of Philippine fashion, Ben Farrales.

Eric Delos SantosLast July 30, at the NBC Tent, Metro presented the hottest trends of the season in the highly-energetic Metrowear YDG / FDCP show. This is the first time where the two groups shared the stage for the series. While the Young Designers’ Guild leaned towards a more cutting-edge direction, the Fashion & Design Council of The Philippines wowed the audience with their elegant aesthetic. The onstage collaboration was seen as a natural fit by Katrina, “Both groups represent excellence in design in both seasoned and ‘up and coming’ categories. Both also have high standards in terms of design creativity, quality and foresight in predicting trends,” she expounds. Directing the show for the first time was Robby Carmona, known for his trademark flair and creative onstage executions. One of the innovative executions for the event were the live musical performances that accompanied each trend. The music was a mélange of rock, pop and electronica served up by DJ Brian Cua, The UST Concert Chorale, Radha and Jay Cayuca. (Inset: Eric Delos Santos)

Playing host for the show was the statuesque Joey Mead, wearing a dress by Avel Bacudio that was inspired by Coke Light. She was also joined by G Tongi, who joined Joey to share her thoughts on 20 years of Metro. Both ladies graced the cover of the magazine three times in the past years. Metro Magazine editor-in-chief Katrina Holigores also highlighted Metro’s advocacy of supporting Philippine fashion.

In this leg of the Metrowear 2009 series, the designers from both the YDG and FDCP were divided among the five holiday 2009 trends, showcasing an interesting range of fashion points-of-view. Opening the show was Techno-Folk, presenting the works of YDG’s Louis Claparols, Eric de los Santos, Veejay Floresca, Brian Leyva and Reian Mata alongside the FDCP’s Dong Omaga-Diaz, Avel Bacudio, Arcy Gayatin, Len Nepomuceno-Guiao, Tippi Ocampo, Frederick Peralta, JC Buendia, Gerry Katigbak and Anthony Nocom. Next in line is the romantic-inspired Shakespeare, where YDG designers Mitzi Quilendrino-Bustos, John Herrera and Aries Lagat went head-to-head with FDCP’s Randy Ortiz, Vittorio Barba, Frederick Peralta, OJ Hofer and JC Buendia. Fashion also goes down the trendy country lane with House On The Prairie featuring the FDCP’s Hindy Weber-Tantoco, Gerry Katigbak, Tippi Ocampo and Anthony Nocom sending their models down the runway with the YDG’s Reian Mata and Louis Claparols. Fashion takes a walk on the magical side with Enchantment, as seen thru the works of FDCP’s Rajo Laurel, Ramon Esteban, Len Nepomuceno-Guiao, Dong Omaga-Diaz and Arcy Gayatin. Representing the YDG are Ferdie Abuel, Eric de los Santos and Brian Leyva. Rounding out the evening’s trend forecast is the architecture-inspired Guggenheim trend, presented by the YDG’s Regine Dulay, Jerome Lorico and Veejay Floresca alongside the FDCP’s Joey Samson, Avel Bacudio, Jojie Lloren and Edwin Ao.

Dong Omaga DiazRepresenting the edgier side of the fashion spectrum is the Young Designers’ Guild. Just shy of 15 years as a group, the current roster also boasts of really strong design talent with a distinctly modern and avant garde point-of-view. Current YDG president Louis Claparols sees Metrowear as a great venue to present their work. “We’re very honored… They’ve really opened doors for young designers like us. Metrowear is the venue for us to show that even if we’re young, we can do the same as the senior designers can,” he enthuses. The Fashion & Design Council of the Philippines has had a long relationship with Metro Magazine, being the first group to collaborate with the magazine in Metrowear’s early presentations. A goal of the group, according to FDCP president Dong Omaga-Diaz, is to “…give direction to the Filipino fashion market. We’d like to present clothes that can be worn but with a certain difference… clothes that can stand out. We’re here to tell you what’s there for you…that there is a choice.” Last year, FDCP member Randy Ortiz was the featured designer for Metrowear Icon, where he presented his “Aspirer” collection. (Inset: Dong Omaga Diaz)

The idea of working together on Metrowear proved to be an exciting concept for the magazine, the YDG and the FDCP. Dong elaborates, “It’s a collaboration…Most of the FDCP designers came from YDG. When the idea was brought to us by Metrowear, the first thing that came to mind was…the young ones and the more mature designers together in a show, so it was quite exciting. Of course, you believe in the YDG…who else can take the place of the seniors one day?” On the other hand, Katrina saw the experience as a reflection of the great partnership between the two. “Their collaboration is an opportunity to learn from one another,” she adds.
