SLIM Gala at the National Museum

National Museum of the Philippines

The opening gala of SLIM: Salvacion Lim Higgins, Philippine Haute Couture 1947-1990 was spectacular! The first time I saw the National Museum of Philippines in full regalia, fitted with red carpet and its Marble Hall filled with glamorous people.

Peninsula Manila catered for the night. I enjoyed the Spanish Tapas, assortment of cheese and bubbly champagne they served. House names in Philippine Fashion and celebrities graced the much anticipated event.

The creations of SLIM is a must see for every fashion professional and patrons of the arts.

Philippine Couture Exhibit | Salvacion Lim Higgins

Fashion is compelling. It is a mirror of time and culture. In the Philippines, fashion history reflects a heritage of artistry and sophistication that few may recall; yet many might be inspired by.

From 1947 to 1990, Salvacion Lim Higgins – better known by the acronym of her name, Slim - challenged the parameters of Philippine fashion, giving it some of its earliest, and often boldest strokes. Yet perhaps her true legacy lies not in her own work but in that of succeeding generations of designers trained at the Slim’s Fashion & Arts School, which she established in 1960. The school, approaching its 50th anniversary, has seen tens of thousands of students pass through its doors to date, many having gone on to make their own indelible marks.

Fashion Design meets Interior Design: FaDAL + PSID

Fashion Design meets Interior Design: FaDAL + PSID by Santi Obcena

Fashion is only for the rich. Fashion is only for the famous. Fashion is a competition. NOT! Shattering common perceptions about fashion is the first thing one will encounter with the Fashion Designers Alliance (FaDAL). Established in April of 2009, FaDAL is lead by a vivacious team of nine officers and eight founding members who believe that there are many designers in the Philippines and that the selection should be broadened from merely three fashion affiliated groups.

Bulawan - The Gold of Camarines Norte

An exhibition of modern gold jewelry featuring the craftsmanship of Camarines Norte Goldsmiths and the Designs of the internationally-awarded multi-media artist Joaquin Gasgonia Palencia.

Gold has been part of Camarines Norte life and history. The earliest account is the anonymously-written relation of the conquest of Luzon dated April 20, 1572. Being my home province, I am aware and familiar with the ups and downs of the gold mining and allied industries that goes with it such as refining and gold smiths. I have seen gold in every form and type of person. Be it the most intricate to a more modest. Gold has mold the lives of Camarines Norte, where owning a gold is not luxury but a part of culture a everyday life. I have adored the pieces of jewelry from my mom's collection and more of my grandparents and aunts.
